Danielle and Kenny

Danielle and Kenny were married at the end of October and had a beautiful, fun wedding at Kings Caterers. Matt and Dan (and the Mummers) kept the dancefloor packed and added to the room with some up lighting.

Thanks to the always amazing Jenn Childress for the images!

{Get To Know Us Monday} Tristan

Tristan is one of our second DJ's. He also happens to be Kyle Emig's brother. We have a few sets of brother's (and brothers and sisters) working at Synergetic. Anyway, meet Tristan.

Becky: Where are you from?
Tristan: Langhorne, Pa

B: Do you have a day? job?
T: I'm majoring in architecture at Philadelphia University

B: What's your favorite type of music? Do you have a favorite song?
T: I guess I would say pop/hip-hop, but there are a lot of artists and songs in that genre that I don't particularly like. I think I'll just generalize it and say I like "feel good" music. One song that won't get old for me is "Don't Stop Me Now" by Queen.

B: How did you get into DJing? What's your favorite thing about it?
T: My brother Kyle got me into DJing a little over a year ago. My favorite thing about it is that when you go to work, you're going to a party. Obviously, we take our jobs seriously and realize that we are at work, not our friend's wedding, but being in a fun atmosphere every time you go to work is really cool.

B: What did you want to be when you grew up?
T: Hopefully, I'll be able to find work as an architect when I graduate. I'd really love to be able to focus on stadium design because it has been an interest of mine since I can remember.

B: What?s your favorite type of event to DJ, why?
T: Being a college student, it wasn't that long ago that I was dancing at proms. That's still the type of music I listen to the most and because of that, proms are the most fun type of event for me.

B: What are your favorite things to do/hobbies?
T: I like playing and watching sports, primarily basketball. In the summer, I'll sometimes go fishing, but I'm by no means a big time fisherman.

B: Do you have a favorite movie?
T: I don't know if it's my all-time favorite, but whenever Forest Gump is on I'll defintely watch it.

B: Do you have any pets?
T: Yes, a 4 year old chocolate lab named Lucy.

Tristan shared with us what he was listening to a couple of weeks ago. Check it out here.

Make sure to check back every Monday for another Q&A. If you have anything you'd like to know about us, leave a comment with your question, post it on our Facebook page or email it in to beckyd@synergeticsounds.com.

Lighting at The Merion

If you have been to The Merion before, you know how awesome it is! For this wedding, we did purple up lighting on the main walls, red in the corners and pin spotted every other table. The color combination turned out really nice and the pin spotting of the taller center pieces really made them stand out.

{Tune in Tuesday} Kyle Wherrity

Kyle is one of our DJs - he also does a number of other things for us around the office. He's kind of a jack of all trades. With Christmas just a few days away, today's Tune in Tuesday is a bit festive.

Here are some of my favorite holiday tunes that get me in the spirit:
-White Christmas – The Drifters
-O Holy Night – The Wiffenpoofs of Yale
-Mele Kalikimaka – Bing Crosby
-Christmas (Baby, Please Come Home) – Darlene Love
-Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree – Brenda Lee
-Carol of the Bells – Trans Siberian Orchestra
-Run, Rudolph, Run – Chuck Berry
-The Man with the Toys – Beach Boys
-Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas – Frank Sinatra

{Get To Know Us Monday} Brian Quinn

Brian is one of our lead production guys. He's a nice guy and is always good for a laugh. Since he sets up a lot of our lighting jobs, we thought we should officially introduce him to everyone.

Becky: Where are you from?
Brian: I was born in Bucks County but raised and still currently reside in the Far Northeast section of Philadelphia, PA.

Becky: What is your “day” job?
Brian: I am a property manager in center city Philadelphia.

Becky: What do you do at Synergetic and how long have you been here?
Brian: I've technically been with Synergetic for abut 5 years. It started as a fill in position here and there and eventually I found myself working just about every Saturday. I am a valued member of the production team. Generally I set up basic lighting for weddings or hook up video for events but every time a unique set up comes around I seem to get the call.

Becky: What’s your favorite type of music? Why? Do you have a favorite song?
Brian: Life is pretty stressful so I find myself listening to anything that relaxes my mind. I'm really into 80's jams but I would have to say my favorite song is "Hey Soul Sister" by Train. It reminds me of my favorite place in the world, Hawaii. Every radio station plays that song 3 times an hour out there.

Becky: What did you want to be when you grew up?
Brian: Growing up I never knew what I wanted to do. Part of me as an adult feels the same way. I know I like helping people and doing things for others so I think I should have probably ended up in the health care industry. In fact now that you asked me that, I'm thinking I am going to go back to school and figure it out.

Becky: What are your favorite things to do/hobbies?
Brian: Play baseball, Racquetball, Ski, Snowboard. Basically anything that keeps me really active.

Becky: Do you have a favorite movie?
Brian: Dirty Dancing. Please don't ask.

Becky: Do you have any pets?
Brian: No Pets anymore. I did have a Yorkie Poo named Chandler. I was able to teach that dog 6 different tricks in a matter of 2 months.

Becky: What do you love about what you do?
Brian: Almost every time I finish setting up a job, I wait for the bride and groom to approve, and just as I get a little tired of waiting, they walk in to the room and I get to see the exuberant reaction because of how nice the place looks and I leave feeling like I did a good job.

Brian was also named the Synergetic Employee of the month for November. Check out the write up here.

Make sure to check back every Monday for another Q&A. If you have anything you'd like to know about us, leave a comment with your question, post it on our Facebook page or email it in to beckyd@synergeticsounds.com.

Event Planners

I can’t tell you enough how much we love event planners! They make our lives so much easier - leading up to the event, during the event, and even after the event. With over 14 years of experience in this business I can honestly say, please, if you are having an event (wedding, corporate event, social function), plan to budget for a coordinator. It will allow you to relax and have a great time and be money well spent.

Call us for our recommendations, because as with anything else, there are a select few that do the job right!
Erin Proud hard at work. Thanks to Jenn Childress for the image.

-The Notorious BIG album never leaves the CD Player in my car.

Wiz Kalifa

J-Cole
Vitamin String Quartet, (great for studying) they cover everything
-I also like Citizens Cope, OAR, The Black Keys, Bob Marley, Metallica, Common, Camron, Lil Wayne, Wale, and Lupe Fiasco. It all depends on what I'm doing and how my day is going.

{Get To Know Us Mondays} Patrick O'Brien

Patrick is one of our newer DJ's. A few weeks ago we filled you in on what he's listening to. Here's your chance to get to know him better.

Becky: Where are you from?
Patrick: Glenolden, PA

B: Do you have a “day" job?
P: I'm a stay at home dad.

B: What’s your favorite type of music? Do you have a favorite song?
P: American Standards. "You’ll Never Know," Michael Buble or "My, My, My," Johnny Gill.

B: How did you get into DJing?
P: I was at a party and asked the DJ, "how do I get into doing this?" Music is one of my favorite things and a close second is planning and executing an awesome wedding!

B: What did you want to be when you grew up? Is it still an option? Is that what you do now?
P: I wanted to sing. Unfortunately not an option because I don’t have a good signing voice! But, I can rap, that's close enough.

B: What’s your favorite type of event to DJ, why?
P: Weddings are my favorite. You need to be able to plan the day musically and understand the formalities.

B: What are your favorite things to do? DO you have any hobbies?
P: Golf is my hobby. Watching Philly sports as well - Flyers, Eagles, Phillies.

B: What is your favorite movie?
P: Resevoir Dogs

Proper Lighting For A Corporate Event

For almost every corporate event we do, we end up suggesting stage or room lighting to our client. They generally know that they need to have a PA system to hear the speakers and a video screen to watch the power point or the DVD, but lighting is one thing always left out.

Even if it is just a few lights for the stage, lighting should be added to every corporate event where the house lighting will be at a minimum. Mostly because the guests need to be able to see what is going on, on stage. Chances are the people speaking are fairly important, and not having them properly lit, can result in your guests not having as good of an experience as they could have. Room lighting can also enhance the emotion of the event. And it doesn’t have to be a big, crazy show. Some simple up lights behind the stage, a ceiling wash in different colors or maybe just a colorful break up pattern on the wall. Any one of these options would help set the stage for your event.

Hiring a professional production company, like us, is the first step in producing a successful event. We ask you the right questions before your event so you're not frustrated after it. So, if you are planning an upcoming event or production, give Matt a call, he will help you figure out what you may need, besides a few speakers and a microphone.

{Tune in Tuesday} Tristan

Tristan is one of our second DJ's. We'll get to know him in a few weeks.
Here's what he's listening to.

Lately, I've been trying to listen to music that I've never really heard before. A lot of times when I'm in the car I'll turn on 104.5 because they play a lot of music that isn't necessarily mainstream. A few bands that are starting to grow on me are MGMT, Passion Pit, and The Killers. It's sometimes nice to take a break from the pop music that you hear all day on the TV and radio. Also, I catch myself listening to a lot of John Legend lately. His music is a great mix of a lot of styles - rock, hip/hop, soul, ecclesiastic.

{Get To Know Us Mondays} Kurt

Kurt is one of our DJ's. He's a great DJ and all around nice guy! He has been with Synergetic for a while now, but for those of you who don't know him, meet Kurt.

Becky: Where are you from?
Kurt: I live in Philadelphia and went to Maternity BVM up until 6th grade, then moved to Feasterville where I finished grade school at Assumption BVM, and Archbishop Wood.

B: Do you have a "day" job?
K: Right now I do Accounting for a nonprofit organization in Doylestown.

B: What's your favorite type of music? Do you have a favorite song?
K: I am into a lot of music - I can't really pick a favorite type, if you saw the blog of what I am listening to you would see why. I think "Poison" by BBD is my favorite song.

B: How did you get into DJing? What's your favorite thing about it?
K: My brother Mark started off DJing himself and I would help out here and there. He eventually started working with Synergetic and brought me in and I have loved it ever since. I love seeing the faces of the people on the dancefloor when they hear a song that I am mixing in and it is one that they love. I would have to say now, after recently getting married, my favorite part is trying to make sure the bride and groom have nothing to worry about all night and can just have fun, since that is what I experienced with Jason being my DJ.

B: What did you want to be when you grew up?
K: I have always wanted to do something with art. I love to draw and design things - it is a way to express myself. I took my first year of college in Graphic Design before switching and getting my degree in Accounting. I think it is still an option and I want to go back and start taking Graphic Design courses again for a degree in that also. I have been talking to a company about a possible job where I would do graphic design and accounting for them - I think that would be a lot of fun.

B: What's your favorite type of event to DJ, why?
K: I would say a wedding is my favorite type of event because bride's and groom's feel comfortable enough to pick me to DJ one of the most important days in their lives. Also, with weddings there is always that element of the unknown with the crowd that you are going to get and the type of music they are going to like, and it is up to me to get them on the dancefloor.

B: What are your favorite things to do/hobbies?
K: I play in a softball and a roller hockey league and I'm a HUGE Philly sports fan. I love spending my time off with my wife since we are usually busy with my work schedule and all of the papers and studying she is doing to graduate in January. Also, when I have time I like to draw.

B: How long have you been a DJ?
K: I have been a DJ for a little over 6 years now and I love it. I have made some great friends with the DJs that we have, and have had a chance to work with some great people in the business.

B: Do you have a favorite movie?
K: This is a tough one - just like music I love a lot of different movies. Comedy and Action movies are my favorite and from them I would have to say- the Hangover and both Transformers are my favorite movies.

B: Do you have any pets?
K: Yes, I have a Minature Pincher, his name is Reese (like the peanut butter cup. I am addicted to them and even named my dog after them, haha). He is probably the most spoiled dog you will ever meet but we love him. And my mom has a dog, I consider mine as well, named Mandy. She is a mix but looks like an Australian Shepard.

Make sure to check back every Monday for another Q&A. If you have anything you'd like to know about us, leave a comment with your question, post it on our Facebook page or email it in to beckyd@synergeticsounds.com.

Erin and the ladies from Proud to Plan did an amazing job with all of the details, and Jenn Childress did a beautiful job capturing them.

{Get To Know Us Modnay} Kelly

We hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I had a wonderful weekend with my family, but today, it's back to reality :). I'd like to reintroduce you to Kelly, our wonderful Sales Executive. Chances are if you've called the office over the last couple of months, you've had the pleasure of speaking with her.

Becky: Where are you from?
Kelly: From Philadelphia - born and raised here :)

B: What do you do at Synergetic?
K: My main role is to be the initial contact for our clients and get them all of the information on our packages. I help fit our clients with the right DJ for them and their event based on the information I receive when speaking with them. I’m the point person for the DJ clients so any questions they have, I can help – or at least try to since I’m still learning – I’ve been here almost 5 months.

B: What’s your favorite type of music? Do you have a favorite song?
K: Obsessed with Third Eye Blind. Most people don’t even know they’re still around and making new music/touring. I’ve been to 15 of their concerts since 1998 and loved each and every one. Also love Dashboard Confessional. Oddly enough, neither bands have songs you’d hear our DJ’s play because they don’t really make music you can dance to. I have so many favorite songs it’s hard to choose. If I had to pick one, I’d say "1000 Julys" by Third Eye Blind.

B: What did you want to be when you grew up? Is it still an option?
K: I wanted to be the first female president. Definitely not a option nor would I want it to be, haha.

B: What are your favorite things to do/hobbies?
K: Phillies. Phillies. Phillies. And Shopping. But mainly Phillies.

B: What's your favorite movie?
K: Fever Pitch – even though it’s about the Red Sox and not the Phillies. I just love that movie and it makes me smile every time I watch it. I love the scene where Jimmy Fallon gets down on one knee and asks Drew Barrymore if she’ll go to Opening Day with him.

B: What do you love about what you do?
K: I love when I talk to a bride/groom and I get to learn about how they got engaged. I genuinely love hearing stories like that because even the not so romantic engagement stories are romantic.

Make sure to check back every Monday for another Q&A. If you have anything you'd like to know about us, leave a comment with your question, post it on our Facebook page or email it in to beckyd@synergeticsounds.com.
