{Synergetic Gives Back} Camp Xperience

Recently, Mike, one of our DJs, volunteered for the second summer in a row at Camp Xperience.

"This was my second summer volunteering at Camp Xperience (a non profit organization designed to build confidence & strong bonds between children struggling with childhood obesity). Last summer as a camp counselor I was there on a daily basis to encourage and reinforce each camper to keep a positive outlook throughout the week. This summer, with Synergetics support, I volunteered to provide sound and entertainment for the final two nights of camp. Due to the blistering heat and inevitable home sickness the camp morale was at an all time low when I arrived. At that time I knew exactly how to turn the night around. I set up a music system and within minutes every camper was either singing, dancing, or just standing there in awe. The two nights at camp went by so fast because the staff and campers make it such a fun atmosphere to be a part of. I am very grateful for having had the opportunity to make a difference in these children's lives." -Mike

We also received this wonderful letter from George Datto, the Executive Director at Camp Xperience.

July 28, 2011
Dear Synergistic Sounds,
We would like to thank you for having Mike Keleher DJ our dance party and campfire at our
summer camp this year. The kids loved it! What an experience! Mike was very professional and
had all the music that made both nights special for the kids. We are most grateful to Synergetic
Sounds in making this possible for our campers. You help us reach our mission of providing this
experience to all kids regardless of their family’s ability to pay. If there is anything we can do in
return, please let us know. We hope that you will continue to make this an important part of the
week at Camp Xperience.
Sincerely,
George Datto
Executive Director, Camp Xperience

We're so glad we were able to add to the campers experience! We have always said how important we feel it is to give back and we will continue to do so at every opportunity we can.

Wish Upon A Wedding

Last week Kelly and I attended the Philadelphia Wish Upon A Wedding Launch Party at Top of the Tower. It was a wonderful event to introduce and show off an amazing organization. Wish Upon a Wedding is a nonprofit organization that provides weddings and vow renewals to couples facing terminal illness or other serious life-threatening circumstances, regardless of sexual orientation.

When I first saw talk of Wish Upon A Wedding last year, I immediately signed Synergetic Sounds up as a Wish Granter and asked how we could get involved. I cannot imagine what it feels like to be told your days are numbered, especially when that means leaving behind someone you love. With the help of Wish Upon A Wedding and Wish Granters, these couples can have the wedding of their dreams and create memories to last a lifetime. It is an honor to be a part of an organization like this.

It took a lot of people to make this party happen, and it was incredible. Mark Kingsdorf, owner of Queen of Hearts Wedding Consultants, and President of the Philadelphia Chapter of Wish Upon A Wedding, gave a beautiful presentation and showed a video of past wish receivers, which left us all in tears.

Ed of Branded Productions was there recording the event and he and his team put together this wonderful video. Pay close attention, you might see someone you know :). And Paul of Unique Concepts Studio, Inc. captured the event beautifully.

The Men of Synergetic

We're finally ready to spill the info on the thing we've been hinting at for a few months now.

A few of our photographer friends mentioned that it could be fun to do a calendar featuring the “Men of Synergetic.” After a few laughs, we figured, why not? So after some brainstorming and getting some friends involved, we decided to do the calendar and donate all of the proceeds from the sale of it to a charity.

After getting the ball rolling and putting the key players in place, we took some time and put some serious thought into where we wanted the money to go. We try to give back multiple times a year and we always make sure to do so locally. We ultimately decided that we wanted all proceeds to go to the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House. Every one of us is a kid at heart and want to do everything we can to help others enjoy a safe, happy and healthy childhood. We love what the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House provides and stands for and we are thrilled to be able to help them in their mission.

The Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House provides a home away from home for families of children with life-threatening illnesses receiving care at local Philadelphia hospitals. The House also runs the Ronald McDonald Camp in the Poconos for oncology patients and their siblings as well as two Family Rooms in the Oncology and Cardiac Centers at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia to provide respite space for families away from the bedside. For more information please visit their website.

For a $10 donation ($13 if you'd like us to ship it to you), you can have your very own calendar! Checks can be made out to Synergetic Sound and Lighting or you can call with credit card information. Our ultimate goal is to donate $2500, so please help us to reach that goal! If you have any questions or are interested please email me, beckyd@synergeticsounds.com.

The Gift of Life

On September 10, 2010, the Gift of Life Foundation hosted its first annual gala. We were fortunate enough to be asked to provide the music for it and were more than happy to help. Mike was the DJ for the event and he kept everyone dancing!

The Gift of Life is a non-profit organ and tissue donor program serving hospitals and patients in Eastern Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey and Delaware. The gala was hosted in order to raise money to open a "home away from home," in the Philadelphia area for donor and transplant families - a place they can call home while their loved ones are going through the transplant process.

Cake donated by Rilling's Bakery Philadelphia
Gift baskets for the Auction (a total of 50 baskets were raffled off)
Gift of Life Education Table
Casino Winner (1 of top 5)
Gift of Life Board Members and Family
Rachel Miller and Tricia Domico (Event Board)
Dancing fun

We asked Rachel Miller, the person behind the gala to share how she got involved with the Gift of Life, her experience with putting such a large event together and what we can do to help. This is what she had to say.

On April 18, 2010 I ran in my first 10k at the foot of the Art Museum steps, raising money for Organ Donor Awareness. In all respects, I never understood how charities operated and that the need to carry out their aim and objectives was so immense. Furthermore, I did not know what I was in for within the approaching months until my boss and great friend, Lynn Fallon, placed me on the board/event committee.

This was merely by default - although, it was a blessing in disguise. Lynn challenged me, and I ran with it. Without a charity event to raise the funds needed to build a home, it would just be a thought for years to come. I learned just what these foundations have on their plates through maintaining a sufficient amount of donors and keeping them a priority year after year. Gaining new supporters, initiating more funds and increasing corporate-level benefits was no easy task.

After booking the affair in Philadelphia, I knew our next step was to find the ideal entertainment. There is an undersized fortune in finding a faultless DJ for an event of this weight and I knew it was something we had to tackle before moving forward with other contracts. I knew I had to contact Matt Blank and Synergetic Sounds. I knew they would help to make this Gala a great success! My brother used Synergetic for his wedding in January and they were wonderful. When I approached Matt about the Gala, he signed on without hesitation. Having Synergetic Sounds as part of this event exceeded all of my expectations. What a class act!

The Thanksgiving holiday will be here in just a few weeks and with that comes a common theme – thankfulness. We should of course be grateful every day, but this time of year provides an especially good opportunity to show gratitude to those around us. My wish for this season is to gather a force of friends that will accompany me and the Gift of Life Families at their new site in Philadelphia- bringing them great dinners, fun, laughs and new friends.

Throughout the course of preparing for and implementing this event, I have deemed fundraising to be as challenging as the physical training of the race. It may have been more of a benefit for myself, than to the families and the foundation. I have learned that positive actions and a relentless effort to help others can result in the discovery of inner-strength and life enrichment.

Thanks so much to Rachel for sharing her story and this wonderful charity with us! If you want to learn more about the Gift of Life Foundation visit their website or you can contact Sara Cohen, Director, at 215-599-2042. If you have any questions about the gala or how to get involved you can contact Rachel at 267-258-6445 or shwtdapuc@gmail.com.

A Wedding for Alex

I'm sure most of you have heard of Alex's Lemonade Stand - a national foundation that evolved from Alexandra "Alex" Scott's (1996-2004) lemonade stand to a nationwide fundraising movement. Since 2000, Alex's Lemonade Stand has raised over $25 million towards finding a cure for childhood cancer.

Last year, "A Wedding for Alex" was put together - The Omni Hotel at Independence Park came together with a number of other Philadelphia area vendors to auction off a $50,000 dream wedding package on eBay. The package includes a rehearsal dinner, ceremony, reception, rings, a custom wedding dress, hair and make up services, photography and videography, a DJ, flowers, invitations, bridesmaid dresses and tuxedos, and a luxurious, all-inclusive honeymoon in Mexico.

Katie McIntyre and Sean Mooney bid $34,100 on this dream wedding and won it. Every penny of that $34,100 will go to Alex's Lemonade Stand and the fight against pediatric cancer.

Katie and Sean's big day is this coming Saturday and we are so thrilled to be a part of it!

To see a clip of the happy couple talking about their decision to bid on the wedding and all of the things included, go here.

Senior Prom

A few weeks ago we got a last minute call from Emily, a Recreational Therapist at the Philadelphia Veterans Community Living Center (Philadelphia VA Medical Center). The music for their Senior Prom had fallen through and they needed help. I mentioned the event to a few of the DJ's and Kyle immediately said he would do it. The theme was "A Red Carpet Affair and the staff went all out decorating for this special event. Kyle had a great time and was glad he was available to do it. We recently got a letter in the mail from Emily telling us how much fun the residents and staff had.

"We would like to truly thank your company and especially Kyle for coming out to volunteer his time and services as DJ of the 4th Annual Senior Prom. We know what it typically costs for his services, so the fact that he donated his time and talent, on such last minute notice, was exceptional! Kyle rocked out the event and made it everything we were hoping it would be for our residents. The music is what makes the event and the fact that we didn't have to worry about any of that was beyond relieving! He really knew how to keep things moving and when to slow it down for a breather. We thank you all for your service to the Veterans!"

Thanks so much for your kind words Emily! It was a pleasure working with you and the rest of the staff. Kyle truly enjoyed himself and we look forward to working with you again soon!

Synergetic Gives Back

On Monday, I was lucky enough to take part in an event that meant a lot to me. My good friend Craig Mullen approached me about the Baseball Extravaganza The Andrew Farrell Spirit of Courage Fund was hosting alongside the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. The Andrew Farrell Spirit of Courage Fund was established in honor of the late Andrew Farrell, a successful high school student athlete with a persona that proved to be larger than life. In April of 2004 Andrew lost his battle with Leukemia. Working with the Youth Advisory council at CHOP, we threw a party for a group of in-patients. What an experience to be a part of.

The kids enjoyed pizza, popcorn and cotton candy as other volunteers offered face painting. They also had the chance to meet the Phillies Phanatic! I will never forget the looks on their faces when he walked into the room. Dancing among the children and posing for a few pictures was more than enough to bring some happiness into the hospital.

I was very lucky to have met two of the children attending and got the chance to teach them a few things about being a DJ. It was an amazing experience to see them learn how to scratch a record and loop a song. The music brought so much joy to these children - they were the best “Celebrity DJ’s” I have ever worked with. Even though the party only lasted about 2 hours, I hope the memories and the happiness it brought the children will last forever. I know I won’t forget it.

Honoring the Philadelphia Police

In our industry it can be very easy to lose sight of what’s really important in the grand scheme of things. To us, there is nothing more gratifying than helping our clients have the wedding of their dreams. We dedicate our time and energy to making sure they and their guests have an amazing time dancing the night away. At this time, we think it is important for us all to take a step back to thank and recognize the men and women who dedicate their lives to keeping us safe.

Last Friday night, February 20, we were honored to be able to take part in the Philadelphia Police Highway Patrol Reunion at the Southampton Room in Northeast Philadelphia (P&P Caterers). The event was not only a reunion for past and present highway patrolmen and women, but it was also a fundraiser to benefit the families of fallen officers, Sgt. Pat McDonald and Officer John Pawlowski. This event was planned months in advance and just so happened to fall on the date of Officer Pawlowski’s Funeral. Many of the officers attending had been up since 4:30 a.m. preparing to lay their fellow officer to rest, but they all came together, and found the energy to throw an amazing event.

We felt it was our duty to help the Philadelphia Police in anyway possible. We uplit the room in blue to add to the overall look and a number of our staff members and DJs attended the event.

There was a lot of money raised for the families and it seemed as though everyone had a great time given the circumstances.

We were also honored to work with the Highway Patrol last October to put together a tailgate benefit in honor of Sgt. Pat McDonald. We helped to raise over $3000 by raffling off two Phillies World Series Tickets. You can view the video here.

Day in and day out the men and women of the Philadelphia Police Force leave their families to protect us from the terrible crime in this city. We are very thankful for everything that they do, and hope more events can be arranged in the future so we can continue to show the Philadelphia Police how much we appreciate what they do.
-Matt
