DJ vs. Dessert

A DJ’s number one goal is to make sure that the Bride and Groom have the time of their lives. Most of the time this is attained by having each formality flow with the rest of the reception and keeping their guests on the dance floor. Generally, I find it easy to to keep the dance floor busy by playing the right music. However there is one variable at each wedding reception that always plays an integral part in the dancing portion of the evening, the dessert.

Every wedding I battle the dessert for the guests attention. It’s a running joke with me to see who is going to win the guests over. On the one hand, I’m playing great music that guests want to dance to. On the other hand, the sweet fragrances of wedding cake and other assorted pastries draw the guests in.

Being able to recognize the type of crowd you're working with is key to winning this battle. If the crowd seems to be enjoying their dessert and wants to relax for a few minutes, then the DJ needs to realize that and play music accordingly. Nothing is worse than grandma trying to enjoy her cake and coffee while listening to "Bust a Move." This is where the DJ’s experience level comes in to play; an experienced DJ would then save then better dancing songs for after dessert. If the crowd is on the dance floor reacting to each song as if they wrote it, then you would not want to slow the music down for desert.

Dessert is key to the food service at a reception, so obviously the bride and groom want people to eat it and enjoy it, but a packed dance floor is much more sweet!

Andrea and Zach

Andrea and Zach had a bright, beautiful reception at the Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton, NJ. They used yellow as their main color - from the bridesmaid dresses to the candy buffet to the flowers at the reception. The room looked absolutely beautiful and we're so glad we could be a part of it! We up lit the room in yellow and hung yellow lit lanterns over the dancefloor.

Congratlations Andrea and Zach, we wish you all the best!

Thanks to Scott from NYLA Photography for the awesome pictures, you can see more from this wedding on his blog!

Tracey and Doug

I recently had the pleasure of working with Tracey and Doug Kaminski for their wedding at the beautiful Mercer Oaks Golf Club in Princeton, NJ. In speaking with Tracey in the months leading up to the wedding she had several ideas of what she wanted to have at her wedding. Most brides make the decision early in the planning whether to have a band or a DJ for entertainment. Doug and Tracey wanted both. Frogger, a local NJ cover band played for an hour and we DJ'd the rest of the evening. The couple also added a martini glass shaped ice luge with their monogram engraved on the side. Being that the color scheme was predominately red we decided to add some red gels under the luge to give it a red hue.

Tracey and Doug also added red up lighting, conventional breakup patterns, and a photo montage to be played during dinner. Let’s just say that Samantha Boudinot (Event Coordinator at Mercer Oaks) and I had our hands full with so many different variables throughout the evening. When all was said and done the room looked amazing, the food was delicious and most importantly Tracey and Doug had the wedding of their dreams. Congrats guys! We wish you the best!

Senior Prom

A few weeks ago we got a last minute call from Emily, a Recreational Therapist at the Philadelphia Veterans Community Living Center (Philadelphia VA Medical Center). The music for their Senior Prom had fallen through and they needed help. I mentioned the event to a few of the DJ's and Kyle immediately said he would do it. The theme was "A Red Carpet Affair and the staff went all out decorating for this special event. Kyle had a great time and was glad he was available to do it. We recently got a letter in the mail from Emily telling us how much fun the residents and staff had.

"We would like to truly thank your company and especially Kyle for coming out to volunteer his time and services as DJ of the 4th Annual Senior Prom. We know what it typically costs for his services, so the fact that he donated his time and talent, on such last minute notice, was exceptional! Kyle rocked out the event and made it everything we were hoping it would be for our residents. The music is what makes the event and the fact that we didn't have to worry about any of that was beyond relieving! He really knew how to keep things moving and when to slow it down for a breather. We thank you all for your service to the Veterans!"

Thanks so much for your kind words Emily! It was a pleasure working with you and the rest of the staff. Kyle truly enjoyed himself and we look forward to working with you again soon!

We love our clients!

We recently received an extremely nice "thank you" letter from the class advisor for a Junior/Senior Prom we DJ'd and did the lighting for at the Valley Forge Convention Center.

"Although this may be an overlooked task, I feel that I must bring to your attention the outstanding customer services I received from your company and especially your DJ's, Chris and Dan at the 2009 Junior/Senior Prom.

I am, of course, very delighted to have had the pleasure of working with your company for our prom. Throughout the entire process, you and your staff made our prom quite successful. We were impressed by the DJ's professional and courteous attitude, expert knowledge and patience in dealing with the staff at the Valley Forge Convention Center, our students and the faculty at the prom.

In the past, our students have not had as good of an experience with the DJ's at the prom. But not this year, our principal remarked that this was one of the best prom's we have held in years and I think that is in part to your excellent service. Synergetic Sounds was definitely the correct choice for our Junior/Senior prom and I will do what I can to help retain your services at future events."

It was wonderful working with you and we really appreciate your kind words!

Senior Prom at the Merion

In early May we had the privilege of DJ'ing a Senior Prom at The Merion. Dan I. was the DJ and he had nothing but great things to say about the students and their prom! "The immense spiral staircase and marble floors and columns in the lobby of the Merion give you the feeling that you are in the Coliseum of Rome. And the appropriately titled theme “When in Rome,” was a great addition to the atmosphere of this extravagant night," Dan said. After enjoying the wonderful food prepared by the Merion's chefs. the students made their way onto the dance floor.

Throughout the night students made their way to the DJ table to make their requests and talk to Dan. The students danced all night long. Dan played a wide variety of genres and music to satisfy the diverse song requests of the students and staff and at the end of the night he received tons of complements and high fives. The students even had a “DJ” chant going.

Thanks Dan for a great job! Below are some images courtesy of Stephanie Butchin at Broken Glass Images.
